LGBT: Pro-LGBT Legislation introduced in MI

Pro-LGBT legislation is being introduced in Michigan by none other than Ann Arbor's own Rep. Chris Kolb. Let's hope this is a step forward for the state as it tries to correct for that nasty misjudgment last November.

One bill will add sexual orientation to the state's anti-discrimination laws for employers. The other will add sexual orientation to the hate crimes law. In my opinion, both are sorely needed to protect LGBT persons from undue discrimination in this state.

I think it's a good idea, but does it really stand a snowballs chance in hell of passing? People in MI didn't exactly demonstrate their fraternal love (no pun intended) for their fellow citizens during the last election. If reactions to court cases about same sex marriage are any indication of what happens when homosexuals try to gain equal rights, then MI will sooner pass a law lowering the penalties for hate crimes based on sexual/gender identity.

Does this really have a snowball's chance in hell of passing? It seems that whenever pride organizations try to push forward legislation or court cases that ask for rights, the rest of the country just pushes back. If anything we'll probably see a bill passed that REDUCES penalties for hate crimes based on sexual/gender identity.
