Politics: school officials are morons

I wouldn't be sad if somebody threw all the guns in the ocean.

That being said, how do these idiots (the school officials) remember to breathe? It seems like people this dumb would walk into traffic or something. To quote Kevin, "Zero tolerance is a synonym for zero IQ."

A teen-age Civil War buff has been suspended from school and faces serious charges after his replica musket was found in his car trunk at school in the Orange County community of Pine Bush. Joshua Phelps had been at a re-enactment with his Civil War costume, including a musket last week. He threw the uniform and equipment into his truck and forgot about it. Yesterday a security guard at the Pine Bush High School saw it and called police. Phelps was sitting in study hall when the security guard told him to go to the assistant principal. When he was told they saw the rifle he wasn't concerned - thinking they would understand it's part of his costume. But it didn't happen that way. Town of Crawford Police were called and Phelps was cuffed and charged with a misdemeanor charge of criminal possession of a weapon.

Damn straight, it took you this little bit of stupidity to figure out this. But then I think that this is steming less from the stupidity of school officials but rather more from the frightenly reactionary attitudes of mothers and fathers throughout the US. The degree of desire for control os getting way out of hand, and I blame a lot of that on the churches and community organisations which encourage such behavior. Rapport with ones child is not encouraged, nor even with ones neighbors or neighbors children but rather families and communities are encouraged more and more to Police their children. Indeed, to the point where they do not allow said children to grow up, keeping tabs long after that child has become an adult. So what happens to the school officials? they have to do something otherwise they are libel to earn the disfavor of the policing elements of society and thus earn a 'bad reputation' for caring for the schools. The officials are really only covering their ass's in front of the comunity. Much like hiring armed guards and having student ID tags at my High School after Columbine was don more to pursuade the community that steps were being taken (ironically creating a stronger atmosphere of fear and intolerance which helped caused Columbine and some of the other school shotings).

I wonder if I made any sense.
